Proposal Application Form (accessible .docx)

Introduction

University Information Technology and Academic Technology and Outreach, in cooperation with the Office of Academic Affairs and Provost at Montana State University, invite proposals for the Spring 2022 semester relating to the development of ePortfolios in classrooms.

This effort supports the MSU strategic plan goal for all students to reflect on their learning in an ePortfolio by 2024. ePortfolios provide students with an outlet to introduce themselves, express their educational and extracurricular engagement, and demonstrate their skills and experiences.

In the spirit of promoting the adoption of ePortfolios across campus, MSU is encouraging the use of Adobe Spark, a web-based suite of creative tools designed to introduce students to content creation, web design, and video editing. Additionally, these tools enhance digital literacy and career readiness across campus. With this in mind, MSU is seeking applications from faculty for funding of $500 to support student development of ePortfolios using one or more Adobe Spark tools.

Award Information

Funding is available for 15 proposals at $500 each. Funding for any given proposal is one-time only, and awardees should not expect ongoing funding. Funds must be spent during the 2021-2022 fiscal year (now through June 30, 2022) and used to support the adoption of a Spark ePortfolio assignment in your Spring 2022 course.

The appropriate MSU department, college, or unit will receive and manage the funds in accordance with MSU and State of Montana policies. Requests to use funds for additional compensation must follow the Additional Compensation approval process.

Other non-monetary incentives include opportunities for student or faculty work to be showcased in presentations at national Adobe Creative Campus events, a Spring 2022 recognition event, participation-based raffle prizes for students, and free pizza provided during workshops.

Eligibility & Requirements

All faculty may apply regardless of program, college, or FTE status.

Funded faculty should require students to attend at least one ePortfolio Workshop hosted by the Digital Literacy Integration Team (workshop schedule is TBD). These workshops will assist your students in setting up their ePortfolios and familiarize them with these support channels.

Faculty will receive a required end-of-course survey to gather quantitative and qualitative feedback from students related to their experience creating an ePortfolio. Additionally, awardees will share their experience via survey and samples of student work when requested at the end of the semester.

Project Support

Funded faculty will receive a detailed assessment rubric, ePortfolio guidelines for students, technical handouts, and sample student ePortfolios.

Please login to spark.adobe.com with your NetID to gain a basic understanding of the types of media available (video, image/document, webpage) and how you will assist the Digital Literacy Integration Team in supporting your students before submitting your proposal.

Additionally, the Digital Literacy Integration Team is available to help you and your students navigate these tools and this project. Interested faculty should contact the team at diglit@montana.edu or (406) 994-6550 for assistance with your project or questions about your proposal.

Faculty are also encouraged to review Spark in the Classroom. This 4-hour self-paced course will introduce you to the Adobe Spark suite and sample projects created by fellow educators.

Submission Instructions

The proposal application form (below) should be submitted to diglit@montana.edu by midnight on Friday, December 10. A committee that includes members from ATO and the Office of the Provost will review the applications.
