Using the Data
Interactive Weather Maps
Montana Weather Stations
Students involved in the UTRAC program can monitor weather and climate data collected in their school yard and compare it to other schools. Kids can test hypotheses by monitoring multiple sites. Montana schools and organizations participating in the UTRAC program are visible on the Netatmo public map.
Soil Moisture Sensors
High school programmers constructed a hardware prototype and developed the computer code to take the soil moisture signals and upload them to Wifi through a backend data engine. MSU scientists and the Children’s Museum are still working on quantifying the accuracy and durability of the sensors.
An up-close look at the Arduino microcontroller inside of the soil moisture sensors. Each probe contains an Arduino microcontroller and is currently powered by rechargeable batteries.
