Panopto is MSU's officially supported lecture capture tool and is available to faculty, staff and students through MSU's TechSmith campus license.
Lecture capture describes any technology that records live instruction, (including screen capture, audio from mic and webcam video) and makes it available digitally for later viewing/listening.
In February 2021, TechSmith announced that it would be retiring its Knowmia enterprise video hosting services.
Following conversations with OCHE and other MUS campuses, MUS decided to pursue a MUS system-level licensing agreement with Panopto – TechSmith’s preferred partner for migration and an industry leader in lecture capture.
All existing videos in TechSmith Knowmia will be automatically migrated to their associated user profiles in Panopto over summer 2022.
Once the migration is complete, MSU has engaged a 3rd party vendor to assist in automatically converting any existing TechSmith Knowmia links in D2L course shells before the start of fall semester of 2022.

Machine-generated captions can also be downloaded, edited, and uploaded with an online video editor.
Panopto's adaptive streaming capabilities better serve viewers with low-bandwidth conditions.
You can add and manage your video files inside your Brightspace classroom folders. You can also link or embed live webcasts and on-demand recordings as Brightspace course content.
