Complete important step for D2L Brightspace-to-Canvas transition by June 1
Dear Colleagues,
The university’s migration to Canvas only copies course content from the D2L Brightspace learning management system. The automated process does not migrate student data, assignments, work, discussions, grades or quizzes. If you need to retain this data for future use, please download it from D2L Brightspace before June 1, 2025. After that time, it will no longer be available.
Visit Retaining Student Data from D2L Brightspace for instructions on how to complete this process. Support specialists are also available to assist you by appointment.
As you consider whether you need to retain any student data, here are a few examples of why you might need student data or work samples:
- I-grade completion
- Course assessment
- Core assessment
- Program assessment
- Accreditation
- Letters of recommendation
- Program review
- Annual review
- Promotion and tenure
We also urge curriculum/assessment committees and department heads to review D2L Brightspace student data retention needs for courses whose instructors have departed or were temporary, and the student data retention is critical to program assessment or accreditation.
Thank you,
Dr. Tracy A.O. Dougher
