Dear Colleagues,

I'm pleased to let you know that Montana State University will be upgrading to a new learning management system: Canvas. The new LMS was selected by the Montana University System and will be deployed at all MUS campuses. At MSU, Canvas will replace D2L/Brightspace, our current LMS.

We have created a website for MSU's transition to Canvas, which you can visit at ato.montana.edu/canvas. On the website, you will find:

  • A timeline for the transition and important dates.
  • Information about course content migration.
  • Instructor resources and training information.
  • Resources for students.
  • Previous communications.

This website is the primary resource for information about the Canvas transition. Please check frequently for updates.

Important Dates

  • Starting in March 2024: Faculty, staff, and students can obtain a generic Canvas account to explore Canvas.
  • August 2024: Faculty can access their MSU Canvas accounts. (Check the website and look for future communications with more details about these accounts.)
  • May 2025: All courses will be fully transitioned to using Canvas.
  • June 2025: D2L/Brightspace will no longer be available.

Questions?

Questions about the upgrade to Canvas can be sent to canvas@montana.edu. For general questions, you can also call Carter Dorsett, teaching and learning technologies manager, at 406-994-6812. For technical support, contact Katrina Bitz, instructional technology support specialist, at 406-994-1978.

Updates will be provided on this project as new information becomes available.

Best regards,

Tracy Dougher
